Democracy is a precious good, but it is often treated as if it were something that could simply be bought. Corruption and lobbyism endanger our fundamental democratic values. This creates the impression in which democracy is symbolically auctioned off to one who pays the most. The auctioneer is visually modeled on a livestock auctioneer as opposed to one from a fancy high-society auction in a chic gallery, which should once again illustrate how little some people value important political ideals. Those who think they can buy politics are degrading the immeasurable value of democracy's political heritage.
